Dr. Katie Strobe Joins SFNM and Talks About IV Cocktails

Dr. Katie Strobe

We are excited to announce that Dr. Katie Strobe is joining the team at San Francisco Natural Medicine. She recently relocated to the Bay Area from her hometown of Seattle. She will provide naturopathic medical care with expertise in energy revitalization, IV nutrient therapy and immune support. We asked Dr. Strobe to introduce herself and discuss a new twist on “craft cocktails.”

Having family roots here, I spent many summers visiting San Francisco and the surrounding areas. I enjoy the cultural richness, diversity, beautiful weather, majestic natural surroundings and innovative people. The Bay Area has always felt like a place I would love to call home. Needless to say, I was very excited to discover that such a well-established and respected clinic as San Francisco Natural Medicine was seeking a new associate doctor.

My first exposure to natural medicine arose following my grandmother’s diagnosis with Stage IV ovarian cancer and participation in a clinical trial using Taxol (Paclitaxel). Upon learning that my grandmother’s treatment originated from the bark of the Pacific Yew tree, I was enamored that nature provided such a powerful tool for killing cancer cells. Additionally, the process by which a team of scientists unraveled these healing properties mesmerized me. This resounding experience sparked my curiosity and ultimately led me to pursue a career path of Naturopathic Doctor and Research Scientist.

While studying at the University of Washington, I embarked upon my first research project at the Washington State Museum of Natural History. My mentor, an anatomy professor with a declared passion for birds, and I would meet each week amidst the rare museum collections. Here, we examined the anatomical differences among deep diving birds to determine if there was a functional significance. I immediately felt the excitement of discovery and my passion for research was ignited.

Following graduation, I began a career at the Institute for Systems Biology (ISB). This was an especially exhilarating time since it was the inception of the biotech company using novel scientific platforms. Here, I was able to contribute to the growth of ISB by utilizing new technologies such as microarrays and mass spectrometry in a “Systems Biology” approach. I investigated a range of health care related topics including: genetics, infectious disease, microbiology and immunology.

My passion for research continued through medical school. My integrative oncology project examined the therapeutic use of medicinal mushrooms in cancer support. Specifically, I investigated the immune-modulating effects of the Turkey Tail mushroom in killing cancer cells.

What is IV Nutrient Therapy?

IV nutrient therapy is a method of delivering vital nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids directly into the bloodstream by accessing a vein in the arm with a small needle. We formulate “cocktails” personalized to your health concerns and cellular demands. These nutrients are administered from a sterile IV bag that drips at a slow rate to ensure efficacy and safety.

Why give IV Nutrient Therapy?

When your body is overworked mentally and physically by a stressful workday, intense workout or challenging life event, you require higher levels of nutrients to repair damaged tissues, regain mental clarity and revitalize energy. Administering nutrients directly into the bloodstream is an effective method for your cells to obtain and utilize the nutrients required for optimal healing. This process bypasses the digestive system; therefore it has an immense benefit for people with digestive problems or an intolerance to oral supplementation.

What are the benefits of IVNT?

Once your cells are functioning properly, tissues recover faster from injuries and workouts, energy and focus improve and your immune system can fight off bacterial and viral infections more effectively. IVNT will help you to remain in peak mental and physical shape. Many people notice the beneficial effects immediately following an infusion.

Who would benefit from IVNT?

IV Nutrient Therapy can benefit most everyone. For people that are healthy and needing a boost of energy, immunity or stamina, IV therapy can deliver this. For people with chronic conditions, IV therapy is restorative, safe and effective. People with the following health concerns will benefit greatly: allergies, migraines, muscle spasms, menstrual cramps, disorders of the digestive system, viral and bacterial infections, fibromyalgia, Lyme disease, age-related macular degeneration and cancer.

What can I expect in an IV Therapy session?

The IV lounge is a warm and inviting space with comfortable reclining chairs. The session can take as little as 30 minutes or up to 4 hours, depending on the solution being given. On average, most drips last 1-2 hours. We provide free WIFI, so feel to bring a digital device and get some work done or relax and listen to an audiobook or music.
