Yes! We Now Have PRP—Platelet Rich Plasma Injection Therapy

Platelet Rich Plasma, also known as “PRP,” is a volume of fractionated plasma taken from your own blood. We draw a few tubes of blood, spin it with a centrifuge, and separate the portion which contains concentrated platelets. These are then injected into your diseased joints to promote tissue repair and accelerated healing.

Dr. Jillian Shannon is SFNM's newest doctor. She has a general naturopathic practice and specializes in regenerative medicine including BHRT, joint injections and IV therapies. She has been working closely with other practitioners specializing in functional endocrinology and anti-aging medicine with the use of stem cells, ozone, and PRP. She is available full time at SFNM and is accepting new patients.

The regenerative capacity of the human body is astounding! Before you give up on your joints and settle for chronic joint pain, why not use your own body’s healing properties and give platelet rich plasma a try? It’s minimally invasive and may result in lasting results with just 3 treatments.

Acupuncture Recommended as First-Line Treatment of Back Pain

Acupuncture Recommended as First-Line Treatment of Back Pain

On February 13, 2017 the American College of Physicians released new evidence-based clinical practice guidelines recommending that people with back pain be first treated with non-drug therapies, including acupuncture, heat, massage or spinal manipulation. Further the ACP advised patients should use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs if drug therapy is desired, with the exception of acetaminophen (Tylenol) due to its ineffectiveness and potential for harm. Finally, opiod and narcotic-type pain medications should not be used for treating back pain except as a last option.

Whether acupuncture works by promoting the flow of Qi or by its action on powerful hormones and body chemistry, or both, the fact is it works.

However, unresolved injuries, chronic infection and stress, environmental toxins and a diet high in inflammatory foods, contribute to chronic inflammation which can lead to chronic pain and illness.

A biofilm is a sticky layer of bacteria, yeast, algae or parasites surrounded by gluey matrix of collagen, proteins, carbohydrates and DNA. Putting Out the Fire—Natural Approaches to Inflammation

Putting Out the Fire—Natural Approaches to Inflammation

As a naturopathic doctor, I’m often asked, “What are the most common conditions you treat?” I’ve found this question difficult to answer, since NDs are primary care providers and see people with a wide range of health issues, such as acute and chronic pain and injuries, illnesses, and hormonal imbalances as well as for prevention. But, as I think about this question, I realize that a very common condition I treat is part of many other common acute and chronic diseases. That condition is inflammation.

What is inflammation?

7 Steps To Heaven—How To Increase Your Libido Naturally

Libido is a term used to describe a person’s desire for sexual activity. Some people just do not have the urge or desire for sex. A decrease or no sex drive can turn sex into a chore instead of a pleasurable activity. There are many causes to a low libido including hormone imbalances, arousal disorders, medications, emotional trauma, stress, depression, a person’s belief system, physical pain and more. While some of these reasons are an easy fix, i.e. discontinuing the medications, others are more complex and may need a qualified doctor to help figure out what the cause is. It also might be a combination of different factors.
